Agdz is a small town with restaurants, a pharmacy, shops, and a dates market. It was the former capital of the Mezguita Oasis, serving as the house of the Caid. The Glaoua family grew increasingly powerful, controlling lands from Telouet to Taourirt in Ouarzazate. They aimed for more control of the Draa Valley. Hammou Galoui, the military leader of the family, pushed Oulad Yahia against Mezguita until he led an army of 5000 men and cannons to siege Tamnougalte for 17 days.
